Police refuse PSC’s recruitment list, call for review
The Nigeria Police Force has raised concerns about alleged irregularities and corruption in the recently published list of successful candidates for the 2022/23 police constables recruitment. This follows numerous complaints from unsuccessful candidates and stakeholders about the disappearance of names of those who were screened and successful up to the final stage.
in a press statement on Saturday Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi revealed that scrutiny of the list showed several anomalies. These include the inclusion of individuals who did not apply or participate in the recruitment exercise, as well as those who failed the Computer Based Test or physical screening, or were disqualified for being medically unfit.
Adejobi also highlighted allegations of financial dealings and corrupt practices that resulted in unqualified and untrainable individuals being shortlisted. In response, Inspector General of Police IGP Olukayode Egbetokun wrote to the Chairman of the Police Service Commission on June 10, objecting to the list and citing these irregularities.
“The reaction of the IGP was without prejudice to the commission's power to recruit for the police as ruled by the Supreme Court, but this power does not include recruiting unqualified and untrained individuals,” Adejobi stated. He emphasized that the police bear the brunt of recruiting unqualified individuals, which can lead to future inefficiency.
The police have dissociated themselves from the published list and called for a transparent and credible review of the recruitment process to ensure the selection of qualified, competent, and trainable individuals. This aligns with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration on police reform. Adejobi assured the public that the police are committed to thoroughly reviewing the process for the betterment of the force and the country.
