Muhammadu Buhari, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, on Sunday, addressed the economic challenges confronting Nigeria, proposing various solutions.
Amid the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, President Tinubu called on Nigerians to extend care and charity to their neighbors, reflecting the spirit of Eid. He emphasized that sacrifice is necessary for national progress. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu reminded Nigerians of their civic responsibilities, highlighting the importance of sharing and gratitude.
The statement read, “We have been told by the Chief Imam how we can follow the path of sacrifice. The sacrifice required of a good citizen. Citizenship comes with responsibilities. As citizens, what do we need to do to be committed members of our society? Yes, that is sacrifice; loving your country, loving your neighbors, sharing what you have with each other, and always being thankful to Almighty God.
”The Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Suleiman Abou-Nolla, who led the prayers, underscored the importance of love, sacrifice, and care for the vulnerable. He cited past leaders like Sir Ahmadu Bello, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Moshood Abiola, and Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, who sacrificed for the nation’s growth. The Imam urged Nigerians to follow their footsteps and pray for President Tinubu’s strength and wisdom to fulfill his vision for a prosperous Nigeria.
Former President Buhari, in a statement by his media adviser Garba Shehu, encouraged citizens to return to farming and buy locally made products. He expressed satisfaction with the increasing number of Nigerians engaging in agriculture to boost food production, lower prices, and ensure food security. Speaking after participating in the Eid prayer with the Emir of Daura, Dr. Faruk Faruk, Buhari wished everyone a happy celebration.
