Popular comedian and skit maker Denilson Igwe has recently opened up about the circumstances that led to his fallout with his former collaborator, Mark Angel. In a preview of the upcoming episode of ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, Igwe detailed the reasons behind his departure, hinting at financial disagreements and a lack of transparency within the team.
Igwe claimed that he was instrumental in the inception of Mark Angel Comedy, not only participating in the creative process but also handling the filming of the skits. According to him, he was unaware when the Facebook page for their content became monetized and did not receive any share of the proceeds until 2016. It was only after Mark Angel bought a car that Igwe received N50,000, despite the channel reportedly earning $160,000 monthly from Facebook revenue.
"I was the one who initiated Mark Angel Comedy," Igwe stated. "Being an orphan, I was learning camera work from a man named Ifeanyi and even took one of the cameras for our shoots. Mark was working as a security guard in Kilimanjaro, GRA, Port Harcourt. We started making comic videos during our free time, and Mark suggested creating a Facebook page for them, which I agreed to without knowing it was later monetized."
Igwe further revealed that Mark began paying Emmanuella, one of the prominent faces of the crew, N20,000 monthly. "Her parents, like mine, were not well-off and didn't understand the financial value of her contributions," Igwe explained. "None of us knew the revenue the page was generating. The first time I saw any money was in 2016, and it was only N50,000. This was despite the fact that the page was making $160,000 monthly."
As of now, Mark Angel has not responded to these allegations.
This candid account sheds light on the challenges and complexities faced by creative collaborations, highlighting the importance of transparency and fair compensation in any partnership.
