Four Female Inmates from Edo State Participate in 2024 NECO Exams

Four female inmates from the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service have successfully participated in the June/July 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE). These inmates, who are housed at the Auchi Custodial Facility, took part in the exams conducted by the National Examination Council of Nigeria (NECO).

The inmates were part of a group of six who initially enrolled for the examination. However, two of them were released from custody before the exams commenced, leaving four to sit for the tests.

According to SC Aminu Suleman, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, the inmates started their educational journey by attending adult literacy classes offered within the Female Custodial Facility. This achievement highlights the commitment of the Nigerian Correctional Service, under the leadership of CGCS Haliru Nababa, to rehabilitate and reform inmates through various programs, including education, skills training, and sports.

Deputy Controller of Corrections, DCC Odoh Jane, praised the inmates for their dedication and resilience. She emphasized the importance of continuing education after their release and encouraged them to contribute positively to society. The Controller of Corrections for Edo State, Emehinola Philomena, has assured ongoing support for all inmates striving for personal and academic development.

In response, Miss Mercy, speaking on behalf of the other inmates, expressed gratitude to the management and promised to serve as ambassadors of positive change.
