Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, the Minister of Women’s Affairs, has expressed deep concern over a viral video where a young woman, reportedly a social media influencer, is seen using her mentally ill mother to generate online content. The video has caused widespread outrage as it shows the daughter filming and interacting with her visibly distressed and disheveled mother.
In a statement posted on her X account on Monday, the Minister strongly condemned the video, describing it as “unacceptable and potentially harmful.” She emphasized that exploiting vulnerable individuals, especially those suffering from mental health issues, is a violation of basic human dignity and empathy.
Kennedy-Ohanenye also called on the public to treat individuals facing mental health challenges with compassion and understanding, rather than exploiting their conditions for personal gain. She urged the public to help identify the woman in the video so that she can receive proper care and protection. The Minister also offered a reward for any information leading to the location and support of the affected individual.
