In a recent operation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully destroyed seven hectares of hemp farms and apprehended three individuals in Kogi State. This action is part of the agency's ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug cultivation and trafficking in the region.
According to Umar Yahuza, the NDLEA Commander in Kogi State, the agency uncovered three hectares of hemp cultivation within Ikeja Forest and an additional four hectares in Maikeke Village, located in the Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area. During the operation at Ikeja Forest, three suspects were arrested, while the owner of the four-hectare farm managed to evade capture.
The operations, conducted between August 9 and August 15, were the result of intelligence gathered by the NDLEA. Commander Yahuza emphasized that the agency is determined to track down the suspect who escaped and ensure they are brought to justice. He highlighted the devastating impact of illegal drug activities on local communities, particularly on the youth, and reaffirmed the NDLEA's commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
Yahuza also called on the public to support the agency's efforts by providing information that could help in the fight against the spread of illicit drugs, which continue to destroy lives, especially among young people in the region.
