Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has come out in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent acquisition of a new aircraft, emphasizing that it is crucial for ensuring his safety and security. The apex Igbo organization highlighted the importance of the Airbus A330 business jet in safeguarding the Nigerian President, particularly in light of incidents that have led to the loss of high-ranking officials in other countries.
In a statement released by Secretary General Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro on Thursday, Ohanaeze addressed the criticism from opposition leaders regarding the purchase, stating that the decision was made with national security in mind. The group pointed to tragic events, such as the death of former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, as reminders of the dangers that can occur if proper security measures are not in place for a nation's leader.
Ohanaeze also criticized the opposition's stance, calling it hypocritical. The statement noted that these leaders did not object when luxury SUVs were distributed to members of the 10th National Assembly, including opposition lawmakers, yet they now oppose the acquisition of an asset deemed necessary for the President's protection.
While acknowledging the economic challenges Nigerians are facing, Isiguzoro urged the public to understand the importance of the President's security and appealed to President Tinubu to focus on addressing the nation's pressing issues. He called for unity among Nigerians and emphasized the need to prioritize the safety of the country’s leaders as a matter of national interest.
