Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as Verydarkman, has raised concerns about billionaire Aliko Dangote's recent unveiling of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from his newly operational refinery. Dangote’s facility, which boasts a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is moving from its testing phase to active local distribution.
Despite the refinery’s impressive launch, Verydarkman has voiced skepticism regarding the sudden approval and operational shift, given the previous contentious interactions between Dangote and government officials. He questions whether political factors and behind-the-scenes negotiations played a role in the refinery’s swift transition to production.
Verydarkman’s critique includes concerns about potential monopolistic tendencies, comparing Dangote’s influence in the oil sector to his dominance in the cement industry. He also highlights fears of possible government concessions influencing the refinery’s progress.
During a recent press conference, Dangote expressed his appreciation for the government's support, emphasizing that the refinery will not only cater to Nigeria’s fuel needs but also serve the wider sub-Saharan region. He also noted the refinery’s commitment to transparency and efficient tracking of fuel distribution.
