Nigerian activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has condemned pastors who use law enforcement to silence critics, calling them “fake.”
His remarks follow Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) advocating for the release of TikToker Olumide Ogunsanwo, popularly known as SeaKing.
SeaKing was reportedly arrested by Nigerian police in Lagos and transferred to the Federal Investigation Department (FID) in Abuja for alleged cyberbullying after he insulted Adeboye over a 100-day fasting directive. In a viral video, he criticized the pastor, using derogatory language.
On Saturday, Adeyanju commended Adeboye for speaking against the arrest, stating that true spiritual leaders should not resort to police action against critics.
Taking to Facebook, Adeyanju wrote:
"Papa Adeboye’s video condemning @seaking303’s arrest and calling for his release is exactly what a true man of God should do."
He further emphasized that Jesus never arrested his critics and rebuked pastors who take legal action against those who insult them.
"Many insult and defame me daily, but I have never supported arrests. A true pastor should seek legal redress, not use police power to silence critics."
Adeyanju concluded by stating that resorting to arrests reflects a lack of faith and leadership.
