The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, has jokingly claimed that Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), was denied a Canadian visa because he underestimated him.
Ajayi made this remark while responding to Musa’s comments about his unsuccessful visa application to the Canadian High Commission. The CDS had spoken at the inaugural annual lecture of the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Security Studies (AANISS) in Abuja, where he expressed disappointment over the visa denial.
Musa revealed that he and other top military officials were scheduled to attend an event in Canada honoring injured war veterans, but while some of his team members were granted visas, others were rejected.
“Every disappointment is a blessing. We were invited with our team, but only half got visas while the rest were denied. It’s very disappointing,” Musa stated, emphasizing the need for Nigeria to become more self-reliant.
In response, Ajayi humorously remarked that the DSS had covertly ensured that Musa’s visa was denied to keep him in Nigeria for the event.
“As much as I respect General Musa, he underestimated me. I have spent 35 years in this job, mastering covert operations. So, when we invited him to chair this event, and he decided to apply for a Canadian visa, we made sure he was denied,” Ajayi said.
He added, “Next time, don’t underestimate the DSS. If you want your visa, come and see me after this event.”
Despite the lighthearted exchange, Ajayi commended Musa for his leadership and dedication, acknowledging him as an exceptional team player. He also shared a story about former U.S. President George Bush, stressing the importance of recognizing the sacrifices made by security personnel.
