Former Labour Party member Kenneth Okonkwo has ruled out supporting Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, the Nollywood veteran criticized Obi and the Labour Party’s handling of the 2023 election, stating they failed to secure the people’s mandate.
Okonkwo, who actively supported Obi in 2023, insisted that the past election should remain in the past. He emphasized that winning an election in Nigeria requires more than just votes—it demands a strong fight to protect the mandate.
“I said it before, and I stand by it. In Nigeria, people will not give you their mandate and allow you to treat it lightly. You must fight for it,” he said.
He also expressed openness to supporting any party, including the APC, if they implement positive changes.
Okonkwo resigned from the Labour Party on February 11, 2025, citing its failure to reposition itself for future elections.
