Security operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have apprehended a former officer of the Nigerian Immigration Service for allegedly attempting to sell firearms to terrorists.
According to reports, the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was caught in an intelligence-driven operation aimed at preventing illegal arms from reaching criminal groups.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the Officer in Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Mustafa Mohammed, confirmed that the suspect was found in possession of various dangerous weapons, including rifles and pistols.
"Based on credible intelligence, we intercepted these weapons from a dismissed immigration officer attempting to supply them to bandits operating in the Abuja-Kaduna forest. The operation was successfully executed before the arms could be delivered," Mohammed stated.
Among the recovered weapons was a highly sophisticated 2022 model of the Scorpion series, capable of single, automatic, or burst fire modes. Authorities also seized 52 rounds of ammunition, which, if in the wrong hands, could have posed a serious security threat.
